So, let’s go: 21 simple ways to generate endless awesome blog post ideas.
#1: Take Notes
When You Go About Your Day
You know all of those cool ideas you have as you’re going about your day?
The ones that make you think, “Oh, I should make a note of that,” but then you get sidetracked and NEVER ACTUALLY MAKE A NOTE?!
It’s time to finally start writing those ideas down.
Some of my best work came from just jotting down ideas throughout my days. Because, hey, ideas just pop up sometimes.
Obviously, you can go old school and carry a notebook around. But for me, the Notes app on my iPhone has become my best buddy.
#2: Follow Your Readers’ Journey
One of the simplest ways to generate blog post ideas is to follow your readers’ journey.
Think of the first few things a beginner in your niche would want to know about and create blog posts around those topics.
Let me give you an example.
EXAMPLE
For example, say you’re in the Wine niche. Some of the topics beginners in your niche want to know about may be:
- “A beginner’s guide to drinking wine”
- “Most common types of wine”
- “How to choose the right wine glass for you”
- “How to open a bottle of wine”
You see, these are topics anyone who is just starting to learn about wine may want to know.
Once you’re done, follow through on your readers’ journey and think of the NEXT few things they would want to know about. Then create blog posts on those topics.
#3: Google’s Auto-Complete
Open up Google and type in the keywords from your blog niche.
You’ll notice that Google will automatically provide suggestions to complete your search.
What’s really awesome is that these are actual and popular words that people are searching for in Google. Therefore, you can write your blog title using some of these exact words and create your content.
Example
For example, if I search in Google with the keyword “Home Decluttering”
Google automatically spits out:
- “Home decluttering checklist”
- “Home decluttering hacks”
- “Home decluttering ideas”
These give you great blog post ideas on what you can create next.
#4: Google’s Related Searches
Another great way to generate blog post ideas is to look into Google’s related searches.
These are commonly searched for terms related to the keywords you’ve typed into Google. They are typically found at the bottom of your search results.
Example
For example, if I search in Google “What is Keto Diet?” The related searches are displayed at the bottom of the search results.
As you can see, it shows me 8 more related searches automatically, including:
- “Keto diet for beginners”
- “Keto diet foods”
- “Keto diet plan for beginners”
- “Keto diet recipes”
- “Keto diet pills”
These give you additional blog post ideas on what you can create next.
#5: Google’s People Also Ask
Since we are on Google, I want to share with you another great way to generate blog post ideas from there.
And that is Google’s “People Also Ask”.
As from its name, these are the questions people also ask (obviously).
So they are great to be used as your blog post titles. Or, if you are creating a pillar post, these could be used as the sub-headings of your blog post.
EXAMPLE
OK, to demonstrate this, let’s continue with the “What is Keto Diet?” example from before.
You’ll see that in the middle of your search result page, there is a session called “People Also Ask”.
So in this particular search, it gives me great blog post ideas such as:
- “What can you eat on the keto diet?”
- “Is the keto diet dangerous?”
- “What does it mean to eat Keto?”
- “How do I start the keto diet?”
But, hang on, this is the coolest part – When you click on any of these questions, Google will automatically expand and generate even more commonly-asked questions.
So you can even more blog post ideas. Super!
#6: Browse Amazon Books
Another simple way to generate blog post ideas is to browse popular books in Amazon.
Go to Amazon, search for popular and bestselling books in your niche. Likely, the title of the books will give you some inspirations.
Also, many of the books will have a “Look Inside” cue indicating that you can look inside the first chapter of the book.
What you want to look at is the “Table of Contents”. That should give you some great inspirations for blog post ideas.
#7: Browse Popular Magazines
Other than books, browsing popular magazines in your niche is another simple way to generate blog post ideas.
Likely, if you are blogging about a niche you are interested in, you may already be subscribed to some magazines in that niche. Take a look at their content to draw inspirations.
Otherwise, search online or visit your nearest bookstore.
Don’t copy them. Just use them as inspirations to help you generate blog post ideas.
#8: Look at Your Competitors
Chances are that your competitors have already written up blog posts on popular topics your readers are looking for. Thus, this is a simple way to generate blog post ideas.
Look for words like “popular posts” and featured posts on their side bar.
Study their most popular blog posts. Of course don’t copy them because that would be bad. Instead, use them as inspirations and add in your own unique spin and awesomeness.
#9: Get Inspirations from Pinterest
I love Pinterest! Not only are the images in Pinterest beautiful, it is also a great way to generate blog post ideas.
Go into Pinterest and on the search bar type in your blog niche.

Pinterest will show you popular sub-niches and many pins that are popular with that keyword.
Look through the popular sub-niches and some of the pins as a way to generate blog post ideas and inspirations for your own.
Example
Say if you are in the Pregnancy niche. You can type in certain keywords for Pregnancy. In this example, I typed in “healthy pregnancy”.
You will see that Pinterest indicate that these are some popular sub-niches under “Healthy pregnancy” (indicated across the top, just below the search bar):
- “Pregnancy meals”
- “Pregnancy snacks”
- “Pregnancy diet”
- “Pregnancy recipes”
Moreover, you will see many pins under this search. And these are great inspirations and a simple way to brainstorm blog post ideas.
#10: Answer The Public
Another simple way to generate blog post ideas? Go to AnswerThePublic.com.
I use this site often to get additional ideas.
Simply type in your niche or topic and Answer The Public will give you the most popular searches people are looking for under those key words.
#11: Browse Quora
Quora is a place where lots of people post their questions to get answered. So it is also a simple way to generate blog post ideas.
Look through the questions people are posting.
Also on the right hand side, you will often find “Related questions” where you can get additional inspirations.
#12: FAQ for Products/Services
If you have your own products or services, it’s always a great idea to create blog posts that answer FAQ (frequently-asked questions) from your customers.
Not only you can shine a spotlight on your products and services, you can also educate and provide details for your products and services at the same time.
Plus, next time someone asks for the info, you can just point them to your blog posts.
#13: Write Product Reviews
Another fantastic way to generate blog post ideas is to think of the products in your niche you have used and write a review.
In fact, product reviews are one of the most effective strategies for affiliate marketing.
Example
For example, if you are in the travel niche, you can write blog posts on:
- “Top 5 Compact Travel Cameras That Are Perfect For Your Next Vacation”
- “The 7 Best Tripods to Travel With”
- “5 Best Light-Weight Luggages for Traveling”
Not only could these be educational and helpful for your readers, you may also be able to link back to online stores such as Amazon to earn affiliate incomes.

#14: Get Ideas from Facebook Groups
Facebook groups are gold mines. And they are another simple way to generate blog post ideas.
Join Facebook groups in your niche and interact with people in the group. Observe, ask questions and offer solutions.
You can get a lot of insights from there and may even get more readers and potential customers to your blog too.
Friendly reminder – as good etiquette, always follow the guidelines of the group admin and be respectful to others.
#15: Niche Down On Your Topics
Another simple way to generate blog post ideas is to niche down on your topic.
Example
For example, if your topic is on Homemade Italian Food, you can niche down on your topic as below:
Topic: Homemade Italian Food
- Homemade Italian Food
- Homemade Italian Salad
- Homemade Italian Soup
- Homemade Itaian Pasta
- Homemade Italian Lasagna
- Homemade Italian Linguine
- Homemade Italian Fettuccine
- Homemade Italian Fettuccine cooking for busy mom
- Homemade Italian Fettuccine cooking in 15 minutes
- Homemade Italian Fettuccine cooking for vegetarians
I‘m no expert in Homemade Italian Food, but I think you get the point.
Niching down on your topic can help you generate tons of blog post ideas easily.
#16: Do A Mindmap
Mindmapping is my go-to activity to generate blog post ideas.
If you’ve never mindmapped before, this is how it work:
- Start by writing your blog niche in the centre of a piece of paper (for example, lose weight)
- Then draw branches out from that central idea to several sub-topics (for example, exercise, diet, drink more water, track progress, supplements, sleep better, reduce stress, make it a lifestyle)
- Continue branching out from those sub-topics. Pay attention to areas of your map that start to become particularly detailed
Mindmapping is especially helpful in turning your half-ideas into fully formed ones while generating tons of great ideas for your blog posts.
#17: Ask Your Email List
Seriously, there is no better way to generate blog post ideas by finding out directly from your audience!
If you have been collecting emails from your blog with an email marketing platform, then you can simply send an email to your audience to ask.
SAMPLE QUESTIONS
For example, you can send them an email with questions such as (replace “XX” with your niche):
- “What are you struggling with in regards to XX”
- “What’s 1 thing you wish to learn when it comes to XX”
Thank your subscribers. Let them know that their answers will help you to create better content to serve them.
As an added bonus, having these feedbacks could also give you inspirations on what products or services you can create or provide for your audience later too.
#18: Ask Your Customers
Following on the last point, there is seriously no better way to generate blog post ideas than actually asking your customers.
Give them a phone call or meet them on a 1-on-1 video call. Even a 10-minute conversation can provide so much insights and help you generate tons of amazing ideas.
Plus, you will likely find out ways to create or improve your products and services.
#19: Approach Old Posts from a New Angle
Perhaps you’ve written a blog post on a certain topic a year ago. But since then you have learned new things, have gained new experience and have came up with new perspectives.
It’s time to write another blog post with your new elements!
And you can link your old post to your new one to drive even more traffic too.
#20: Read A Lot
“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” – Stephen King
Subscribe to blogs that inspire you. Pick up a book. It does the brain good. Nurturing your brain is always the best way to generate blog post ideas.

#21: Get Up. Live A Little!
Sometimes the reason why we can’t seem to come up with new ideas is just because our brain needs a break!
Get up. Take a walk. Do new things. Take a new class. Meet a friend. Take a bubble bath. Volunteer. Have some fun. Live a little.
New experiences and adventures are often the best way to wake up the tired brain and get our creative juice flowing again.
